As Culinary Director at Vitalia Montrose, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and find fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work extends beyond preparing meals—it’s about building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference.

I chose senior living after growing tired of the demanding restaurant lifestyle. Late nights, long weekends, and no benefits took their toll. Fortunately, a friend who was a General Manager at an assisted living community encouraged me to make the shift. Without a doubt, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Much of my preparation for this role came from ten years as a chef at Stone Gardens Assisted Living. That experience taught me how to manage kitchen operations in a senior living setting. It also helped me grow into a more effective and compassionate leader.
What I love most about this work is the chance to connect daily with residents. It also brings the opportunity to improve quality of life and to mentor a dedicated team.
Each morning, I head straight into the kitchen to greet my staff. That early connection helps set a positive tone for the day and gives me insight into how the team is feeling.
For anyone considering a culinary career in senior living, here’s my advice: it’s a stable and rewarding path with excellent benefits and a much better work-life balance. At the same time, it’s not without its challenges. You’ll need a thick skin, the ability to accept feedback from many directions, and a deep commitment to serving others.

To me, success looks like a clean, efficient kitchen, a team that feels supported, and residents who are both happy and well-fed. When the team finishes the day with pride and positivity, I know we’ve done something right.
At day’s end, I take great pride in knowing I’ve contributed something meaningful—whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt conversation, or a comforting moment. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
