Arrow Senior Living is known for doing things a little differently and challenging the status quo within the industry. It’s just who we are! Even with all the technological conveniences of today such as social media and websites, it is still common to meet individuals with a skewed perception of what senior living looks like. In this blog, I want to share my senior living journey, why I remain committed to the industry, the biggest myth I believe exists, and how to help others overcome the myths surrounding our beautiful Vitalia Montrose community and services.
My journey to becoming an Executive Director has been unique. I began as a Culinary Director, which eventually led to a more active role in sales. Transitioning to the role of Senior Living Director, I found fulfillment in assisting families through their next chapter. It was during my time in sales that I became interested in pursuing the Executive Director position, driven by a desire to continue supporting families and residents. While exploring various roles within senior living, I’ve found that my talents align best with the role of Executive Director.
What keeps me engaged with the community daily is not only the residents, but also the team members. Interacting with residents, whether it’s pouring a cup of coffee or simply checking in on them, brings me joy. Working alongside the team, I find satisfaction in offering solutions, providing support, and guiding them to become better decision-makers while fostering opportunities for professional growth.
One prevalent myth about senior living is residents surrender their independence. Senior living empowers residents to have a say in their care, food choices, and participation in events.
To dispel these myths, participation in community events is key. Prospective residents can start by attending hosted events or stopping by for a meal in the restaurant before moving in.
Current residents play a vital role in debunking myths by actively engaging in community activities, communicating their preferences, inviting loved ones to participate, and feeling empowered to ask questions.
I hope you found this helpful, and I encourage you to share it with others because here at Arrow, we are committed to reshaping the perception of senior living! Search #whatseniorlivinglookslike, and you will find so many great things that happen in our community every single day.
