VITALIA Active Adult Community – Montrose Thanks and Celebrates Its Culinary Director

Category: Senior Living

Author: Matthew McKown, Executive Director

Fun Fact: The hat that chefs wear is called a Toque Blanche, which means white hat in French. It is believed that the height of the hat symbolizes the seniority and rank of the chef in the kitchen and the folds in the hat express the qualification of the chef.

Culinary art is the mastery of preparing, cooking, and presenting food. Culinarians, or Chefs, are experts in this field and can be found in hotels and restaurants around the world. The depth of their talent extends far beyond the kitchen. Chefs also have a profound understanding of design, food science, nutrition, and diet.

Culinarians Day, held annually on July 25th, is a day to thank and celebrate the people who impact our experience with food in such meaningful ways. Worldwide, this day is a time to appreciate the art of cooking and is often commemorated with events and competitions. At Vitalia Active Adult Community – Montrose, we will honoring our amazing Culinary Director, Christine Archey, and their team!

Chrissy started working for a local coffee shop in Fairlawn when she was 14 years old. She worked at Delmonico Steak House in Las Vegas for five years. As an intern at JW Marriott on Marco Island, she was front of the house Food and Beverage Manager for three years. Chrissy served as Department Head Food and Beverage Manager at Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island for three years before moving back to Ohio to start her Senior Living career.

Chrissy is a certified scuba diver. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, dogs, and family. The famous person she would like to prepare a meal for is Anthony Bourdain; he has always been her hero.

The signature sweet Chrissy prepares for our community is lemon curd. This is the dessert she and her mother always make for special Sunday brunches. Her favorite dish to make is anything on the grill or pizza.

Quality is the focus of our restaurant. Most of our food is made from scratch, with an emphasis on choosing the finest ingredients. Chrissy works extremely hard to provide the best for our residents. The culinary team is fiercely dedicated and takes pride in the exceptional customer service that they deliver to the residents. We could not do what we do at The Crest without this hardworking team!

If you want to join in the Culinarian Day fun, you can toast the day with your friends and family by cooking some new recipes! Embrace the celebration by sharing pictures or video of the recipe and your adventures on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. tagged with #CulinariansDay.
