2023 Reflection on Word of the Year: Persistence

As we wrap up 2023, we find ourselves reflecting on months past and what lies ahead with our community’s journey. 

If you recall, our Personal and Professional Development Coach, Michael “Buck” Buckley. Challenged us to pick a “Word of the Year” in January 2023. Buck asked us to look inward and consider what we need more of or what might improve our lives. The time has come to revisit our Word of the Year for 2023 and explore its impact on Vitalia Montrose. Whether you’ve been an active member or are just joining us, this retrospective journey invites us all to celebrate the past year.

Our community Word of the Year for 2023 was ‘persistence.’ We achieved many successes throughout the year, living in line with our word and improving the community.

In 2023, Vitalia Montrose experienced a series of notable successes, with the chosen word of the year being persistence. The team at Vitalia Montrose embraced this theme in a particularly impactful way by resetting and returning to the fundamentals of following established processes and procedures. This approach has proven to catalyze enhanced team effectiveness and communication.

By recommitting to established processes, the team at Vitalia Montrose demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication to overcoming challenges. This commitment to persistence created a foundation for improved communication among team members. Clear procedures helped streamline workflows, ensuring everyone was on the same page and contributing to the team’s overall effectiveness.

The positive effects of this persistence were felt internally and resonated with the residents of Vitalia Montrose. Team members, now aligned with streamlined processes, communicated more efficiently and in a timely manner with the residents. Whether addressing concerns, providing updates, or offering support, the team exhibited a newfound commitment to follow through on their interactions with residents.

I believe we lived out the word. The persistent focus on revisiting and adhering to fundamental processes has become a guiding principle for success at Vitalia Montrose. This commitment to persistence has not only strengthened internal operations. Still, it has also created a tangible and positive impact on the community. The improved communication between team members and residents is evidence of this. 

As Vitalia Montrose continues to embody the spirit of persistence, it sets a promising trajectory for sustained success in the year ahead. I’m looking forward to 2024 and coaching the department heads to grow and develop as leaders.

As we bid farewell to 2023, we will carry forward the essence of our Word of the Year into 2024. The successes and strides of our community, the embodiment of our chosen word in our collective actions, are not just markers in time but a testament to the strength of this community.
